Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP)

EECP is a treatment developed to help patients with angina (chest paint) and congestive heart failure to obtain relief from symptoms. EECP is performed on a special treatment table where you will be wrapped in there sets of buffs (like large blood pressure cuffs) around your calves, lower thighs, and upper thighs (including the buttocks). A compressor will use air to inflate and deflate these cuffs in sequence, starting with the calves, then the lower thighs and then the upper thighs and buttocks. The pressure moves the blood from your lower limbs towards your heart. Each wave of pressure is time to your heartbeat, therefore the increased blood flow is delivered to your heart at the time that it is relaxed. The sequence of inflation/deflation lowers the amount of work your heart has to do to pump blood to the rest of your body.
